Animal Reiki

Animal Reiki

I think I could turn and live with animals, they are so placid and contain’d.

– Walt Whtiman

As a child and adolescent, I much preferred the company of animals over people and spent as much time with them as I could. I began working as a dog groomer when I was 13, attended horse camps and took riding lessons as much as possible, and was always good for bringing home a stray.

Today I find myself still in love with every furry, scaled, and feathered creature I encounter. So of course I offer animal Reiki! It is my honor to work with and learn from every animal I offer Reiki to.

I work with the Animal Reiki Practitioner Code of Ethics, developed by Kathleen Prasad, which recognizes that animals must have a voice in their own healing. Following these guidelines allows practitioners to approach healing animals on the animal’s terms, instead of human terms. A healing session for a dog will look different than a healing session for a person, depending on that dog’s needs and preferences.

It is important for animal owners to understand two things about offering Reiki to animals:

1. It is always the animal’s choice to receive Reiki

2. The Reiki practitioner is not doing the healing – they are providing a healing space for animals to move in and out of as they wish; it is the Reiki energy and the willingness of the animal to engage in healing that does the work.

How an Animal Reiki Session Works

In an in-person animal Reiki session, I come to your home, barn, or clinic and meet with you first to understand any concerns you may have about your friend’s health. Then I take a few minutes to let your animal friend get acquainted with me. Animals should not be restrained but in a space where they can move comfortably around. I sit or stand quietly, and engage with Reiki energy through meditation. The energy is offered in a way that allows animals to choose whether to engage in the healing energy and if so, from how far away. The session is hands-off unless the animal indicates otherwise.

For a distance animal Reiki session, you and your companion get settled in a comfortable space where you won’t be interrupted. We’ll connect by Zoom – a link for our meeting will be sent once you’ve booked your appointment. I connect with your animal companion energetically and hold the session just as if it were in-person.

Session Costs

  • In-Person Animal Reiki Session, 1 hour $75 (plus travel cost if more than 20 miles/45 minutes away)
  • Distance Animal Reiki Session, 1 hour $60

Important note: Animal Reiki should not be used in place of veterinary care but as a complement to any treatment your vet recommends. I do not diagnose or offer to cure specific illnesses.

Contact me to schedule a session or ask questions.

Please include what kind of animal you are inquiring about, whether this is a distance or in-person session, and any current issues you’re hoping Reiki will help your companion with.
