Tree of Life Meditation
This is a lovely, well-known meditation that has dozens of variations and can last for as long or as short a session as needed. This is the version I’ve developed to help clients ground and center themselves before or during a healing session or reading, and which I use in my Wholistic Wellness Classes.ย Below that is an extension you can add to bring your energy connection up to the cosmos.ย
Becoming the Tree of Life
Get into a comfortable position with both feet on the floor, if you’re sitting upright. Close your eyes if you’re comfortable doing so, and focus on your breathing. Gently work on slowing and deepening your breath, allowing each inhale and exhale to come from your belly, instead of your chest.
Continue your steady breathing, and as you do, envision your spine as the trunk of a tree, with roots extending down from your tailbone and the soles of your feet into the earth. On each inhale, focus on bringing earth energy into your being through your roots and trunk. On each exhale, see your roots extending further down, embracing the earth.
Allow any heavy or negative energy to travel down your roots as you exhale, where it is received by the earth and transformed. Replace that low-vibrational energy with earth energy as it travels back up your roots to your spine, and into your physical and energetic bodies.
Spend as much time in this space as you need, transforming your energy, and being grounded and supported by the earth.
Connecting With the Cosmos – Extending the Tree of Life Meditation
Once you’ve established your energy exchange with the earth, imagine your crown chakra at the top of your head opening like a flower and light extending out, like the reaching canopy of a tree.
Feel this light connecting you with the universal energy of the cosmos (or universe, source, creator, etc), and become aware of your body, the trunk of your tree, being a conduit for both earth and cosmic energy. This energy flows effortlessly through you, bringing health, strength, and rejuvenating life force into your being.
Hold your awareness here in this energy exchange with the earth and cosmos. Know this connection to be real: we are all energetically connected to the earth and cosmos. Our roots of energy extend down into the earth, connecting with all life on the planet. Our crowns of light are always reaching up to the heavens.
Be aware of yourself as an interconnected being, knowing that the love and light you bring into your being from the earth and cosmos is shared by the communities you are connected with. By strengthening your connections, you help others do the same. You are a grounding, interconnected force for your community, carrying love and light within you.
Hold yourself in this energy flow for as long as you wish. When you are ready, bring yourself back to your physical surroundings by rubbing your hands together and opening your eyes.
